Terms & Conditions

Effective date: August 13, 2026·Last updated: August 13, 2026

These Terms govern your use of ConnectCommunity ("Connect", "we", "us", "our"), including our web app, mobile app, and related services. By creating an account or using Connect, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use Connect.

1. Alpha/beta notice — please read

Connect is currently in alpha/beta. This means:

  • Features may be incomplete, unstable, or change without notice
  • Data in our development environment may be wiped when we leave alpha — don't rely on Connect as a permanent record during this period
  • Sign-up is currently limited to Calgary, AB and Auckland, NZ (invited users may register from other locations)
  • Please do not enter real payment card numbers, home addresses, or confidential business/customer information during this stage
  • If you submit feedback through our in-app form, it is created as a public GitHub issue, including the title, category, description, and the email address you provide. Do not include information you would not want to appear in a public repository.

We provide Connect on an "as-is" basis during this period with no uptime or service-level commitment.

2. Who can use Connect

Connect supports two kinds of accounts:

  • Personal accounts — for browsing, booking, messaging, and reviewing local businesses
  • Business accounts — for businesses to publish a profile, manage services, calendar, customers, invoices, and team

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use Connect. If you are using Connect on behalf of a business, you represent that you have authority to bind that business to these Terms.

You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure.

3. What Connect is (and isn't)

Connect is a marketplace and software tool that connects personal users with local businesses and helps businesses run their operations. Connect is not:

  • The provider of the underlying service a business offers (for example, we don't provide the haircut, tutoring session, or repair — the business does)
  • A payment processor for bookings — invoices recorded in Connect (cash, card, bank transfer, other) are a record businesses keep of how they were paid, not a transaction Connect processes. Refunds, if any, happen outside Connect, between the client and the business, and are only reflected in Connect's invoice status
  • A guarantor of any business's quality, licensing, insurance, or reliability

The only payment Connect itself processes is an optional donation to ConnectCommunity via Stripe (minimum $1), which is not a subscription and doesn't grant any special account status.

4. Bookings

Personal users can request bookings with a business; businesses can confirm, decline, or reschedule. Group sessions may have waiting lists. Cancellation terms (notice period, fees, and similar conditions) are set by each business, not by Connect. Connect does not define a default cancellation policy and does not charge cancellation fees. If a business has not published its own cancellation terms, cancellations are arranged directly between the client and the business.

5. Business accounts and team roles

A business account has three roles: Owner (full control, including deleting the business), Admin, and Staff. Owners are responsible for who they invite and what access they grant. Staff and Admins may see that business's customers, bookings, invoices, and messages as part of their role.

Businesses are responsible for:

  • The accuracy of their public profile (services, pricing, contact info)
  • Complying with any licensing, insurance, or professional requirements for the services they offer (Connect does not verify these)
  • The customer data they enter into Connect about their own clients — see our Privacy Policy for how we handle that as between you and us
  • Closing out or transferring ownership of the business before an owner deletes their personal account

Connect may review, approve, suspend, or remove a business listing at our discretion, including if it violates these Terms or applicable law.

6. Content you submit

Messages, reviews, and business profile content you submit are yours, but by posting them you give Connect a license to host, store, and display that content as part of operating the service (for example, showing your review publicly on a business's page with your name attached).

  • Reviews: one review per completed session, shown publicly with your first and last name, rating, and comment. Reviews cannot be edited after they are submitted. Reviewers and businesses cannot remove reviews themselves. Connect may remove a review that violates these Terms or applicable law. To request removal, contact support@connectcommunity.app.
  • Messages: private between the participants; not reviewed by Connect except as needed for support, safety, or legal reasons
  • You agree not to post anything unlawful, harassing, fraudulent, or that infringes someone else's rights, and not to use messaging or reviews to spam or scrape other users' contact information

7. Donations

Donations are processed by Stripe. Card details are handled directly by Stripe and are not stored by Connect. Donations are voluntary and generally non-refundable except as required by law or at our discretion.

8. Account suspension and termination

We may suspend or deactivate an account or business that violates these Terms, poses a security risk, or is inactive during our beta period. You can delete your own personal account at any time; business owners must first transfer or close each business they own. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Connect is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, during our alpha/beta period. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will be preserved. We are not liable for the acts or omissions of businesses using the platform, the quality or safety of services booked through Connect, or losses arising from data changes or wipes during our alpha/beta phase.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms or your use of Connect is limited to the amount you donated to Connect in the twelve (12) months before the claim, or CAD $0 if you made no donations. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law that cannot be waived by contract.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any non-waivable rights you have where you live, the courts of Alberta (sitting in Calgary) have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Connect evolves, especially as we move from alpha/beta toward general availability. We'll update the "last updated" date and, for material changes, notify users where required. Continued use of Connect after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
